Our contribution for the DigPlay project
STEP Institute is an innovative non-profit organisation from Ljubljana, Slovenia, driven by a simple mission: to empower individuals and organisations for personal and professional growth.
We work at the intersection of psychology, education, entrepreneurship and digital transformation, turning research insights into practical tools, training programmes and learning experiences for teachers, students, youth, adults, organisations and underrepresented groups. Our strength lies in connecting people, ideas and sectors — education with work, science with practice, personal growth with professional development — while keeping the end user at the centre. Through national and European projects, we develop skills such as communication, emotional intelligence, digital competence, growth mindset, collaboration and creativity, helping people recognise their potential and apply it in real-life contexts. In DigPlay, this experience supports the development of practical, user-friendly and research-based approaches for recognising young people’s digital competences.
What Is Your Role in DigPlay?
STEP Institute helps shape DigPlay into a practical and inclusive experience for young people, educators and youth workers. We bring experience in educational psychology, gamification, competence-based assessment, youth career guidance and participatory learning, with a strong focus on user-friendly and research-supported solutions.
In the project, we support research and lead the development of the game-based assessment framework, helping define how digital competences (based on DigComp 3.0) can be observed and recognised through gameplay. We also contribute to training materials, demonstrators and practical resources that make DigPlay easier to use in schools and youth settings.
Through this, STEP helps ensure that DigPlay keeps young people at the centre: making their digital strengths visible, supporting educators with practical tools, and turning Play into Proof.
