Why DigPlay

DigPlay is an Erasmus+ Forward-Looking Project creating a new approach to digital skills assessment for secondary and vocational learners aged 14–19. By combining game-based assessment with the European DigComp framework, the project helps educators recognise digital competence in ways that are more engaging, inclusive and relevant to how young people learn today.

Why DigPlay?

Because learning doesn’t only happen in classrooms.

DigPlay transforms authentic gameplay into recognised digital competence. Every day, young people develop valuable skills through collaboration, creativity and problem-solving in digital environments. By mapping these authentic experiences to the European DigComp framework, DigPlay helps educators recognise the digital skills learners already demonstrate through play.

Learn Through Play

Learners build digital skills naturally while playing familiar games like Minecraft, Fortnite and Portal, where collaboration, creativity and problem-solving become part of the learning experience.

Assess What Matters

Gameplay is mapped to the European DigComp framework, allowing educators to recognise authentic digital competences through an innovative, evidence-based approach—without another traditional test.

Unlock Future Opportunities

The DigPlay platform transforms gameplay into meaningful insights, helping learners understand their strengths while giving educators the tools to support progress and recognise digital competence with confidence.

Why DigPlay?

Because Recognition Creates Opportunity

Imagine a learner who has mastered teamwork in Minecraft, strategic thinking in Fortnite, or problem-solving in Portal. Those achievements already exist—they simply haven’t been recognised in ways that matter beyond the game.

DigPlay bridges the gap between the informal achievements learners already collect through gameplay and the recognised competences educators and employers value. By making digital potential visible, the project helps learners build confidence, gives educators deeper insight into their strengths, and creates new pathways to education, employment and lifelong learning.

Why DigPlay?

Because Meaningful Recognition Starts with the Right Principles

SEvery decision behind DigPlay is guided by four core principles that shape how digital skills are recognised. Together, they ensure the project is engaging for learners, trusted by educators and grounded in evidence.

PLAY to PROOF

Gaming skills are real digital skills. DigPlay transforms authentic gameplay into meaningful evidence of learning, helping learners gain recognition for the abilities they already demonstrate.

Pedagogical Rigour

Every assessment is aligned with the European DigComp framework, ensuring digital competence is recognised through an evidence-based methodology that educators, schools and policymakers can trust.

Radical Inclusivity

Designed with girls, neurodivergent learners and underserved communities in mind, DigPlay creates opportunities for every learner to demonstrate their strengths. More inclusive assessment benefits everyone.

Invisible Evaluation

Assessment happens naturally during gameplay. Instead of interrupting learning with another test, DigPlay observes competence as learners collaborate, create and solve problems in authentic digital environments.
